While concrete has a multitude of benefits, including a low cost, low maintenance, environmentally friendly, and long lasting, it is not a perfect material. It has a highly porous surface, making it prone to stains and water absorption, and it can pit, crack, and degrade over time when untreated and unsealed. Using a densifier can mitigate these factors with concrete, creating a highly durable, dense material.
Like it’s name suggests, a concrete densifier is a chemical that seeps into the porous surface and reacts with the calcium hydroxide in the substrate. The reaction produces calcium silicate hydrate which fills the pores and increases the surface area by 20 to 40 percent, creating a harder, denser surface. Designed to be used after the concrete is placed or during the refinement and polishing process, this chemical is easy to apply and a cost-effective way to extend the life of your concrete.
